These are Indian War period (1870-1880) cross cavalry sabers headgear insignia in the typical small size. These are pin backed with the entire rear lead filled. The 6th Reg. Number is attached to the lead on an inset loop. The lead filled company letter ‘E’ is hanging from the saber rings by small brass wire.
This style of Regiment and Company letter attachment with the lead filling was used briefly during the 1870s period and is somewhat rare and not commonly seen in today’s collectors market.
