A very nice drake and hen pair of blue-winged teal decoys as manufactured by the Mason Factory of Detroit, Michigan. This is the Standard Grade as produced and marketed by Mason. These decoys would date from the 1915-1924 period.
While these appear to be an unmatched rig pair, I am selling them as a set. Both decoys have a similar condition to the paint and look like a near match. The bodies and tails are worn in spots, but no serious chips. Body feather painting can be seen on the backs of each, but there is some hunting and gunning wear from coming in and out of the boat.
Both decoys were rigged at one time, but the weight has been taken off. When viewed from the bottom the hen has the correct olive coloring, while the drake has the more orange-ish lower body coloring, plus painted spots and sponging. The necks on each have been restored with new filler, but all else appears original and correct. The hen has some minor shot marks on the left side. These puddle ducks measure about 12 inches from tip of the tail to the beak tip.
Mason decoys are extremely collectable, and the blue-winged teal decoys are less often encountered in the collecting arena. These decoys are in good to very good condition and are becoming hard to find in the market. A nice pair of teal.
